Book 7/50

I am going to combine two books into one because it's THE WALKING DEAD Volumes 13 and 14. So unless I'm struggling at the end of this 50 book challenge, this is ONE book. One.

THE WALKING DEAD: 13 AND 14 by Robert Kirkman

Now this is going to be a very, very thin review. Because I have people on this flist that are planning on reading these comics or who are watching the show. And since I don't know where the show is going, plotwise, I am going to err on the side of caution.

What I will say is that the comics make the show look like Mr. Rogers. And these next two volumes didn't change this pattern at all. It had been awhile since I last read this series (and I'm not totally caught up, as I don't have the comics outside the volumed sets), but I remembered where I left it. And HOLY SHIT have we come a long way from where the show is now, environment wise. I do love how unapologetic Kirkman is with his characters and his choices. I think that even though it's incredibly bleak and dark and twisted, it would feel completely disingenuous if a post-zombie apocalyptic world WASN'T all these things.

I will also say that Rick Grimes has turned into a monster. And it makes me sad, even though it isn't surprising in any way, shape, or form. I can see him becoming something of a Governor-like character as the series goes on (comic reference, though they BETTER bring him into the show because he's the GREATEST villain I've ever encountered in comics), and this both excites and scares me.
