The past week in a nutshell: Too many Renaissance churches! In all seriousness, though, I keep being amazed exactly how much there is to see in Rome history-wise. Yes, I've been here before, know about the glorious past, etc., but I still hadn't realized there are literally maybe three buildings in the entire city that weren't palaces or villas or haven't had ancient streets excavated underneath them. It's insane! I love it, but I am fast reaching the point where all the sites just blur together. I have also become sadly used to the fact that I'm currently living in a bloody Renaissance villa.(!) It is pretty sweet to walk past tourists ogling the villa and in through the gate, though.

I sort of look forward to going home in two weeks' time. I had too much wine last night, danced on a tree stump on a piazza and tried climbing a statue of Garibaldi. So, today I mostly felt like curling up in my own bed and settling into a quiet life for a while. Also, Mum called (I wanted to call her all day, but decided to be independent and mature and suffer in silence, and then she called and it was like she read my mind) and now I miss her.

Ostia tomorrow. Hope everyone's well.

Peace and love,
Elina

Mitreo delle Sette Sfere in Ostia, is the culmination of the idea of a perfect mithraeum.
