weekly bandom no.11

Apr 07, 2008 22:12

Bandom was surprisingly busy this week, man oh man. And by bandom, I really mean Panic. This is a pretty long post (the image section is definitely longer than usual) which is part of the reason it's late.

By the look of things (and given that Panic is MTV's Artist of the Week), it's going to be another busy week. Since I'm in NYC next weekend and will not be posting Weekly Bandom, expect (probably) an extra-long post in two weeks.

Also, thanks to reader-response, I've added My Chemical Romance to the weekly bandom line-up!

From the Tell me to stop 'verse, so of course there's a definite warning for kink. Spanking, clothespins, &c. And oh, it is written well. It's hot, complex, fascinating, and absolutely full of trust and love. I'm still absolutely aflail over this.
They keep all of their toys in a box in the closet, and Brendon comes into the bedroom and finds Spencer staring at it. He walks up behind him and says, "What're you planning for me?"

Spencer startles, badly.

"What if it wasn't for you tonight?" Spencer asks, which throws Brendon completely through a loop. He blinks and tries to laugh it off, in case it's a joke. But Spencer is completely serious.

warnings: dubcon, powerplays, very rough sex, and breathplay.
If he gets back in the van (the stuffy sweaty claustrophobic people space of the van) his chest will explode. Pete knows this. Patrick should fucking know it, too, if he knows anything at all about Pete by now; but he doesn't, and Pete feels the prickle of growing irritation under his skin. "No."

The Road Not Taken by rhombal
Spencer/Jon, pg
"Jon-"

His back is curved, tense, arms crossing over his chest protectively. "Did you mean what you said?"

Spencer licks his lips nervously and looks down; he had been stressed, a little frustrated, but now he's simply blank. "I didn't think you'd-"

Jon interrupts him with a laugh, a short and incredulous burst of air.

The One Where They Try To Kidnap Bear by thingsyoumissed
hilarious Empires gen, pg-13
"Now it's just us," Tom moans. Sean punches him in the arm. "Dude, we can't have a secret rescue mission with only three dudes."

warning: crossdressing, underwear fetish
The way kink-fic ought to be. Complex, emotional, and about more than sex. There's great characterization, and while crossdressing isn't a personal kink, I was able to really get into this and enjoy it.
Sharing a bus with a bunch of guys for a prolonged period of time means they’ve mostly fallen out of the habit of pleasantries and niceties, the manners their parents so patiently taught them getting set aside out of laziness. So Jon doesn’t bother knocking when he has to use the bathroom, pushing the narrow door open and stopping dead.

Far Better Than Joy by sevenfists
gen (focusing on Ryan and Spencer), pg
Ryan breaks up with Keltie while they're in Copenhagen and Spencer doesn't find out until three days later. That's the first sign-or, if Spencer's being honest with himself, the first he pays attention to.

penguin!Patrick that is made of smiles and hearts, for reals.
Most of the other penguins would roll their eyes at the little kid sliding happily over the ice and singing wordless songs at the top of his lungs, but Patrick didn’t care.

My City's Still Breathing by mcee
Ryland/Alex, r
Absolutely gorgeous and comfortable and perfect.
Alex shows up at seven and dumps two full bags of grocery on Ryland's kitchen counter, sending the take-out menus flutter to the floor. Ryland is still getting used to this grown-up Alex, who wears discount designer jeans and thick glasses and would rather spend three hours cooking in Ryland's tiny kitchen than go out and eat in the Village. The first time Ryland knew him, Alex talked a lot about food he'd make, but always ended up in a booth at Joe's with Ryland and the rest of their friends after school.

The Second Law of Panic at the Disco by harriet_vane

Hilarious and sweet and wonderful.
No one was surprised when Brendon came back to the bus, teary-eyed. He stomped into the back and slammed the door.

Jon and Ryan and Spencer were playing go fish because Ryan had threatened to make them all wear flowers again if he had to listen to Guitar Hero one more time. Spencer drew another card from the pile and sighed a little. He thought about getting up and going after Brendon, but it was totally going to be the same problem it always was. Brendon had absolutely the worst taste in dates. What was anyone supposed to do about that?

While they were in NYC for Saturday Night Live, Panic went to Angels & Kings. And appear to have gotten all kinds of drunk. Underage (well, two of them) drunk shenanigans at Pete's bar, \o? [click for fullsize]

And a few more miscellaneous (click the headshots for fullsizes):

PATD, Cobra Starship, We The Kings, and others played mtvU's Spring Break. The sidebar on this page has links to all the performances. And that linked video has a few interview clips (that are facepalm-worthy), fantastic footage of Brendon & Spencer's VMA hug from back in the day, and Kim Stolz narrating. It's an awful script, but I sitll get excited when I hear her voice :D

Yet more NME videos with Ryan and Jon. Track-by-track this time.

NME interview with all four of them. I'm not sure whether the best part is the tape measurer story complete with Brendon's facepalming, Ryan saying he doesn't give a shit, Zack being a typical Panic fan, or the way Spencer is politely disinterested almost the whole time (and spends a lot of time watching Brendon).

Danish interview. Instead of just smooshing the Danish words together, Brendon attempts to learn, and tries to diagram the sentence. ♥!

In the new Counting Crows liner notes:
"I want to thank Millard for just being Millard (pal, you are the joint), Lisa LeBarre and Alicia Suarez and Ehud Lazin for caring so much and so long and Ryan Adams, Dave Gibbs, Chris Carrabba, and Ryan Ross for...well, just a lot."

There's a poll re: Pretty. Odd. over at weemo_closet.

Spencer interview (print).
ZM: Spencer if you weren’t in the band anymore, what would you do?
SS: That’s a fun question, we get asked that sometimes. I would have gone back to school and I like cooking. If I wasn’t doing the band, I would go back to school and become a chef. I always wanted to open my own restaurant. I make chicken Parmesan pretty well and with a little spaghetti, that’s all you need.

Translated interview with Ryan and Jon (print obviously).
Jon: When we were in New York with the band, I dreamed that we had to leave the hotel. We had to be evacuated. I was the hero, because I brought all the band members and people who were with us in to safety. I threw the mattress outside from the 30th floor, we jumped on it and we slid down. That was one of the weirdest dreams I ever had. Oh no, I once had a dream where my cats talked to me! …The next day I kept an eye on them. I thought that they really could hear me. But I think they can’t. At least, not yet, because I think that they are a little nervous to show their true identity.

NME reviews a Panic show. Worth a read. In part because yes, it's positive, but more because it's thoughtful and intelligent.

Panic was on SNL! The linked post has some youtube videos and screencaps. But as I'm pretty sure the videos have been pulled by now, just go download them at PATDOnline.

Another Ryan & Jon interview. Worth it for the anecdote about Zack saying he might get an explanation point tattooed on his leg so they can say that that's where it went.

Butch Walker telling Patrick to shut up and sing! <3333

Pete updated meelikey. (Anyone know why the lj feed seems to have stopped working?)

Pete got to ask Madonna a question in Q Magazine:
Pete Wentz: What's it like to be the world's biggest gay icon and not be gay?

Madonna: How does he know I'm not gay? No, I'm just kidding. It feels great. If it's true. Why do I think that might be? Because since the very beginning of my career I've always promoted freedom of expression and embracing the idea of being different. Independence of through; fighting any kind of oppression. And also: I'm a diva. I think "Queer Nation" and "Diva" just go together. The diva in them recognised the diva in me. All my banging dancefloor tunes? Well yes, that goes without saying.

Some unsettling stuff went down at one of MCR's Vegas show. I still don't even entirely know what to make of it.

ladysorka has a giant recap post of the Vegas shows, complete with photos and video!

As if Gerard wasn't endearing enough, his response when bombarded by fans at a Starbucks:
"All right! No more screaming! No more pictures, no autographs, no hugs and no cellphones... until after I've had my coffee. And even then there's still no screaming!"

I completely missed this when it happened: azrielen's Mikey-in-drag manip was printed in an Indonesian music magazine as a real picture. O__o

Cover art for the Black Parade DVD has been released!

Cobra Starship was on Conan.

warmingweather made a fantastic post of epic Cab love!

On April 1st, Nick kicked Travis out of Tequila Mockingbird, and posted a clip of a new song (ahahaha I LOVE IT). Of course it was an April Fools prank, but Travis believed him.

Over at bandom_recs, sweetnovicane posted a huge Butch Walker primer / pimp post! Go check it out!

turnyourankle posted some really interesting thoughts on graphics and bandom.

Earlier this week there was some drama (for lack of a better word) regarding the lack of a warning for rape in this fic. Normally I wouldn't include bandom drama in these posts, but it's prompted quite a bit of interesting discussion about responsiblities as writers, fic etiquette, triggers, and so on in the comments, and in seperate entries people made. (To avoid spinning off into a huge tangent, I'm abstaining for sharing my thoughts here.)

iamtheenemy posted an absolutely fantastic bandom overview at crack_van. This is my new go-to for introducing people to bandom.

If those that haven't could fill out my brief poll re: weekly bandom, I'd really appreciate it.

And thank you all for the love you keep sending my way. ♥!
