Z is for…

Sep 30, 2007 12:45

Apparently I'd uploaded these songs a while ago, before things started fucking up. I'd completely forgotten. Huh.

And we reach the end, however many months later. I've enjoyed this, I hope you have as well.
Another 4-song post. My Z catagory is sadly lacking. Help a girl out?

Evanescence - Zero (live)
Not the greatest recording, but a really fabulous cover, so it's worth it. Regardless of the issues I have with Evanescence at times, Amy Lee has a great voice that absolutely should be utilized. It's easy, when covering one of Smashing Pumpkin's angrier songs, to lose the melodic aspects of one's voice, but she holds onto it all the way. She never stops singing, and it makes for a great cover.

The Cranberries - Zombies
My first Cranberries song, and I will rec it until the freaking end of time. So loud, so dark, so 90s rock. And Dolores can do things with that Irish voice of hers that make me sit up and pay attention, godDAMN.

The Fugees - Zealots
Apparently they're going to get back together, which will be curious, given how much Lauryn Hill lost her edge. We'll see. Either way, this is a quality song. I can't just call the Fugees rap or hip-hop, because they are a class unto themselves (and while I don't really like most rap or hip-hop, I'm really into them). Chill song, strong beat, good message. A+

Mark Mothersbaugh - Zissou Society Blue Star Cadet / Ned's Theme (Take 1)
I cannot say enough good things about this man. He writes the scores for Wes Anderson, and they are my dream team. Low budget synth music on a genius scale, in this case. Really, you need to see The Life Aquatic to get the full impact, but it's a fantastic song no matter what.

I hope over the course of my alphabet posts you've found some new music to enjoy.
