See, that's Dean's job. For John it's revenge, but for Dean, it's for much finer motives. Also, on a slightly more depressing note, it is how he defines himself. His identity is bound up with saving people and being a rescuer. *pets the self-abnegating woobie*

Also? I'm going to go ahead and friend you now. I am WAY behind on commenting on your fics (I've got about a dozen in my memories) and I was holding off until I did the polite thing first. But lately I am able to spend less and less time online and the fabulously prolific nature of my favorite writers (and you ARE so one of those! Your 'Conversational Winchester for Trolls'? *DEAD*) and trying to at least keep up with other friends, is only getting me further behind.
