Honesty and its Price

Ask any Bangalorite about autos and they will list their tale of woe on the high price for this mode of transportation. In such a situation it is a wonderful rarity finding an auto which runs on a proper meter. On my way to office one day, I had to take an auto as I got late and missed the office cab.

On reaching my office:

Auto driver: 20 rupees extra madam.

Me: Why?! The meter says 65 rupees.

Auto driver: No madam, in all of Bangalore you will not find such a meter, I have not modified it in any way. I run it honestly, for anyone else the price would have reached 80-90 rupees because the meters are not correct.

Me: Take 80, not more.

I could not argue with that logic because it was for the first time that I saw honesty had a price. So instead of being dishonest and charging 80 rupees, you be honest and take extra money for your honesty? The experience was too precious!
