Friday was a nice end to a long week. Point of pride, I got up at a decent hour and showed up at work before noon. I had lunch with Drew and Nina and her new asian boyfriend.
My co-worker Kevin had a little housewarming party for his new downtown condo that night. My response to his evite.com mail two weeks ago was "I usually spend Friday nights painting my nails black and listening to Bauhaus while writing suicide poetry, but I might make an exception in your case." I didn't get a "haha, funny" response -- my shtick needs some work. Anyway I drove to downtown at 8:00 on a Friday and was reminded why I hate driving anywhere downtown. Parking sucks. I found a cheap lot two blocks away but as I was locking my car, some guy came walking by and said he was parked on a free spot and was leaving, and I could get his space! What a nice guy. Faith in humanity, restored.
Got to Kev's place (actually the penthouse with a new view of the Needle), and damn, there's a bunch of people I don't know, and no one from work. I'm not the friendliest person in the world, so a roomful of strangers isn't my idea of fun. Thankfully, there's a ton of alcohol to help ease the shyness. Turned out most of Kevin's fratboy-looking crew are MS people from the same alma mater (mostly RIT, a handful from UMich). So I was able to chat with one of the guys about the Rochester/northwest area of NY. Then I overhead something about Puzzle Hunt, and turned out they're regular players, and even played the one that kicked off in Bellingham. I was like, 'hey, I know people from the Stanford team!' It's tough trying to be in and hip with young peoples.
Wendy showed up later, and I ended up talking to her for most of the relatively short time I was there. I'd been tired and stressed the whole week so the little alcohol I had was kicking my ass from the inside, so I decided to take off pretty early.
Sunday I drove down to IKEA to get a computer mount thing that attaches to the side of a table and suspends your PC above the floor. I want to get as much stuff off of the floor so my robot vacuum can get to more places.
1/4 tank of gas to get from Kirkland to Renton = ~$7.50. Dinner (Swedish meatballs) = $7. Latte = $2.50. Total cost just to browse so far is $17. And the computer holder? A mere $4.99. =)
Oh hey Jan, thanks for posting about pandora.com. Found some new artists to follow.
