Well Dave and I are heroes as of today. We were walking back from Maccas last night bout 1am, when we heard a smoke alarm and smelt a fair amount of smoke. Dave decided that we should go check out the house and make sure the occupants were alright. We knocked on the door, no answer. I thought
"well might as well see if theres an actual fire"
and walked around the house looking in the windows. Thats right, i was lurking around the windows. Anyway there was a fair amount of smoke comming out of the kitchen, not fir smoke but more sorta smouldering smoke. dont look at me like that, there is a difference...i WAS smokey bear in a past life. So yeah i told dave and we walked around the front of the house. Looked through the front window and theres this guy, spread out on the couch. I'm like banging on the window, then i saw the side door.
"What the heck, lets see if its open"
I open the door and full on yell at the guy, who doesnt move. So i go in and (woops, tresspassing lol) and full on shake him. Still no response. I go check out the kitchen, he left his fish stick type things in the grill. I hope he likes his food well-well-well-trancedningly well done. Turn the grill off, pull them out of the grill. I wonder around and open up the windows to vent the smoke. Dave's still trying to wake the guy mind you. Damo walks in now and finds me in the bedroom turning the cd player off.
"Hey nick, is that insulin on the ground there...next to the syringes?"
"shit, he might be a diabetic?! theres also a shite load of eer bottles, so he could have just passed out?"
Yeah, that got us worried. We go back to the lounge room and tell dave, who dials 000 and tells them all the happ. They ambo's ring him back and get him to roll the fella on his side and tilt his head back. By this time im sick of the TV blaring to i turn it off.
Its wierd, you shake a guy and scream in his ear, he doesn't budge. You have a smoke alarm roaring in the house, he doesn't budge. I turn the TV off, and he wakes up.
Imagine t, you come to after passing out, and theres dave standing above you. Yeah he was about to come out swinging until we QUICKLY explained everything to him. He was fair drunk, and seemed to have trouble understanding. Dave told the ambo guys that the dude was up and about and seemed alright. The guy wondered around inspecting the kitchen, then decided he wanted a smoke. It was fairly clear he was alright. We checked him, then left him to clean up.
Best thing, he had to work today. Man id hate to be doing bussiness ith him cause he is going to be fair wrecked lol
But yeah, thats my little heroic escapade. Didnt do much heroics, but it still counts.
"Im no heroe, i only did what needed to be done. Anyone would have done the same"
