Okay, so another question I have been pondering for a while. Who is a true hero. I am really asking about the definition of a hero here.
One definition I found was, “person noted for feats of courage or nobility of purpose, especially one who has risked or sacrificed his or her life” In my definition, I add to the end, doing those acts without a duty to do so. This for me is a key addition.
Many people have stated that their parents are their heroes. In my mind, this is not the case. While I admire my mom and think she did a wonderful job raising me, I believe by having sex and having me, she took me on a responsibility. I am not saying she did anything less than heroic, but, under my definition, she doesn’t classify as a hero.
Two questions for you guys, am I off base and second, who is a hero under my definition. I keep coming back to both Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks with the latter being more of a hero in my mind. I am sure there are many other, but I can’t really think of many!
