Apprentice Interview

Okay, it is over. The thing I have been so concerned with for the past month is done with, after a 9 minute conversation. I am also on my way towards a vacation of skiing and gambling in LA and Vegas. A long needed relaxation.

About the interview though. The two people were supposed to be there at 9:30 to be ready for my interview at 10:00. However, at 10:00 they finally pulled up. In all the confusion, I was kinda iced down. The two interviewers were nothing that I had expected. Both were young and dressed very casual. Definitely not what I was expecting. The first question was why you want to do the apprentice and then from there it was just a very informal conversation; which, would have been fine except they asked the question that I couldn’t resist.

The asked about judge Roy Moore in Alabama and his refusal to take the Ten Commandments out of the courtroom. I was prepared to be brief and not ramble or anything. However, this is a topic that gets me very heated. So the rest of our conversation revolved around that. They didn’t even really look at the application or anything. I guess they look at those once they get people to the next round or something.

Anyways, it was very obvious that the initial screen is just on personalities. Whether I am what they are looking for, who knows. I definitely failed at this interview. They said they would let me know by tonight and I could actually do the next part in LA. However, as the first person, they couldn’t tell me anything definite and I don’t expect a call back.

In the end, I got a great opportunity. I learned something important. I was ready to take control of the conversation and make sure I would tell them what I wanted them to know. However, they got my emotions stirred with something I have a strong political view of. As soon as this happened, I lost sight of the goal. Oh well, I am heading out to go skiing.
It was a good process and I learned a lot about myself.
