I nearly left work early tonight (but restrained myself) so that I could zoom home and catch American Idol. I got home a half-hour into the show, but fortunately I missed no one who I would've cared about seeing.
I've been watching American Idol this season for the first time (I watched a little bit of earlier seasons, but mostly just the auditions). I don't know how I got sucked in, but...anyway, Melinda Doolittle is the best singer, almost certainly, this season--but even better, she can actually interpret a song. If you can't appreciate this:
or this:
...you have no taste. It was two weeks ago, and it's still in my head. Then there was this week, when she sang "As Long as He Needs Me" from Oliver!, which to be honest I never really liked as a song. But Melinda can apparently sing the phone book and it will be pretty damn good. I'd buy her album now.
However, since this week was "British Invasion" week, I'll evidently be downloading a bunch of
The Zombies into my iPod. ooh 1960s brits. When Britain was actually kind of "cool".
