You don't "feel" overwhelemed. That's a metaphor that clouds and obscures the solution to your problem.
Seperate your "feelings" into what they are, desires and expectations.
Then, you'll recognize that you desire not to have to do the work but you expect that you'll flunk if you don't. You wish you had studied and now you don't expect you'll have sufficient time. You want to pass but you don't expect that you will, especially if you don't start making progress right away.
When all of these realities are blurred by converting them to metaphorical feelings, you are then able to blame it all on things that really do impact you physiologically, like eating wrong, lack of sleep, too much drugs, alcohol and whatever else you do to yourself that makes you genuinely "feel" poorly.
So, now you are able to define these real "feelings" under the heading "Things I don't have to worry about because they will get better when I start living right and that are not going to get any better until I do so there's no sense in worrying about them"
And then, you are able to aggressively reconcile your desires with your expectations which have nothing to do with things you can't control...
i.e.
I desire to pass my classes so I expect that I'll have to get to work.
