the boy with the thorn in his side

Ever get one of those little splinters where you can't see them but can definitely FEEL them?  I was the unfortunate victim of such a tiny barb.  I spent most  of the first half of my call wailing about between hammer-pages because I'd rub it just so and it would hit the one nerve in the vicinity connected directly to my thalamus.

I was a modern version of "The Princess and the Pea" and it escalated to the point where I had to break down and perform one handed surgery on myself.  Imagine if you will, the scene of me at the nurse's station performing an impromptu procedure with conscripted equipment consisting of an otoscope and some surgical tweezers.  It took a bit of doing, but the extraction team radioed a fait accompli and the entire kingdom was overcome with joy.

I'm now rested from my nap and ready to make my journey south.  I'm going to stop, as usual, at the Czech Stop.  Perhaps I'll pick up some Kolaches and/or Kobloznicks for Heather, my lovely hostess?  They are an I-35 must have, so I might as well.

Of course, I haven't even packed yet.  I don't think I'll ever grow up to the point were I actually pack more than a few hours ahead of any trip.  Austin is only a 185 miles away and I'm only going to be gone for a few days.  We'll see what happens when I pack for Morocco.  I'm so looking forward to this year's travel adventures.  It promises to be exciting already.  I'm likely hitting both coasts, possibly Canada, and at least one continent.  Huzzah for mobility!

See ya on the flip side.  Try not to miss me too much.  I miss you already.

days off rule, friends, letters from a young doctor, one handed surgery, pimping ain't easy, ow ow ow
