Got rained on at least three times today- it's cold and stormy, typical early-fall weather. But since we didn't really have a summer this year I feel kinda cheated, and half tempted to run away to someplace hot for a week or so. (Turkey, maybe?) But I may have to content myself with the occasional sauna, it's hot, too, and much cheaper...

Money's been tight. What else is new, you ask? But I've recently moved and started a new job, and while I can't complain at all about my salary, the increase in living expenses is twice as high as the increase in pay.  Rent is so insane it scares me. I think I spend 2/3 of my net monthly income on rent and bills.

It's okay, because of course I did choose to move, and I could have chosen not to, but it's so difficult to find a place here that I didn't feel I could really risk passing this one up. Especially with Tim moving here in a couple months.

Well, this just means I have to use my  money-saving skills that I got as a starving grad student. Things were so much worse-- back then rent and bills was 100% of my take-home and the only reason I could eat was because my parents were giving me a monthly loan.

So, just as a reminder, the top-5 things I always like to keep in mind when money's tight:
- newspapers are just as good when you read them for free at the library
- do not enter clothing stores at all, ever
- sleeping in and reading a book on the couch are entirely free
- bit-torrents are your friend
- train tickets and cups of coffee downtown are expensive but worth it, because they keep life from being dreary and miserable.
