I watched live coverage of the election from the grandest room at Cambridge University, with over two hundred supporters of Barack Obama, organized by Democrats Abroad. We were there from 9:30 at night until 5 in the morning, and the enthusiasm was so strong and so amazing that it carried us over any tiredness we had.

We had bought a bottle of champagne prior to coming to the event.

When he won Ohio, the room cheered like you wouldn't believe. My brother told me it was over, and that was the first time I cried that night.

We waited until 4 to see what would happen. The room watched the ticker in the corner of MSNBC and counted down the seconds until the California polls closed. The minute they did, and Barack Obama was president, I started crying and didn't stop for an hour.

But the best thing was that one of our friends had taken out the box of glasses we would drink the champagne in five minutes before. We knew it was coming and we still couldn't believe it.

I am so proud to be an American today, even an American in England.
