I applied and got a cashier/"front end" job at
Whole Foods Market this week and I just worked my first "shift" (if you could call 3 1/2 hours a shift-it was more like a mini-training/acclimation shift from 7pm-closing) End of the shift thoughts: my feet! my feet! I am going to shop for those Dr. Scholls gel pad inserts first thing tomorrow and eventually I might invest in new shoes, but I love the pair I already have it's just they aren't padded enough.
Other than that the first taste of being on the floor went well and I am already loving my apron (it has badges/buttons and pockets!) and all of my coworkers because it is such a diverse bunch of people! Age-wise, race-wise, and background-it's a real mix of people; probably in part the location (it's Palo Alto but both Stanford and public transportation make it highly visited and accessible) plus it's
Whole Foods, which tends to attract a certain mix of people because of it's "organic/natural/healthy food" flavor that isn't found in other grocery stores. I know that's what attracted me! I start my first full week on Sunday and I'll be clocking 38 hours (i.e. it's gonna be a loooooooooong week for me) But I'm pleased with the job and will be even more pleased when I once again have some medical benefits (...in 3 months).
In conclusion, if you find yourself in Palo Alto and hungry and/or wanting to shop for other things that
Whole Foods Market carries-stop by and I might be the one bagging your food! (and hopefully I'll pronounce bag properly, unlike tonight where I kept saying "paper or plastic blags?")

P.S. I spent 30 minutes trying to find a cool icon for work related posts (like a time-clock with some quote about a "9-5 grind") and had to settle for a cropped
Whole Foods Market logo found on google instead-if only I could do good icon making without photoshop (which I don't have). If anyone is handy with icons... :-D
