So, in celebration of a year in which I expect Slumdog Millionaire, Mickey (or maybe Sean), Kate, Heath and Penelope (or maybe Viola) to win, it was nice to receive a little affirmation. The DaColbert Code = MOST RELIABLE PREDICTOR OF OSCARS EVAR. ♥ Stephen's arcane and mystical power FTW.

The best movie of last year (if you ask me, anyway) was Waltz with Bashir, which is probably frustratingly going to lose Foreign Film to The Class. Well, it's so seldom I think the Oscars get anything right as it is..

Let's hope there are no major upsets in the acting categories. I don't want to get angry and feel like throwing things at the television.

I haven't had the chance to see either Waltz or Class, which bums me out. Have to keep a REALLY close watch on the movie pages because both are the kind of film that would disappear in two seconds if they even opened here in the first place.

I'd pick Benjamin Button out of the five on show, I guess. Though I haven't seen Frost/Nixon yet.

Sean counts as a minor upset, but he was good, so I'll let it go.

Actually, I have to correct myself: while I stand by Waltz with Bashir, what should have been nominated instead of something like Frost/Nixon or The Reader (both admirable films, but not particularly good in either case except for their performances) was WALL-E which was clearly one of the top 3 films from last year. I can't believe the Academy was so boneheaded to leave it out. FALSE.

I didn't hate Slumdog or anything, but it was corny and predictable, and moreover I think the criticisms of poverty porn are justified. Whatever, the best movies are almost never given the Hollywood recognition they deserve, but that's why I'm glad there are international film festivals and awards.

I'm now very curious about this Japanese film that upset Waltz with Bashir and The Class, and hope it has a US distributor if it doesn't already - though I'm sure you're less so. ;)

Ha ha, maybe we CAN'T watch movies together after all. ;) I liked Wall-E, I really did, but personally it wasn't one of my favourites of all of Pixar's films, much less one of my favourites of last year. The first half was phenomenal, personally I didn't think the second half matched it in tone or quality. DANG HUMANS SHOWING UP AND RUINING EVERYTHING. ;)

Huh, I've never heard of Departures before. I actually had to go google it. Hopefully it'll come to Singapore; probably a greater chance of that now that it's won, plus we're Azn. I just want Waltz and Class to get to these shores too, dangit.
