The Real LJ Idol // Mini Season // Week 9: Buddha on the Road
The following is an entry for therealljidol writing contest.

"Sonofabitch!" she shouted, drowning out Adele's sing-song melodies for just a moment.
"Dude, that level of stress isn't good for you," Nancy said from the passenger seat.
"Did you SEE that guy? He totally cut me off! Use your BLINKER, a-hole!!" she shouted more then heaved an enormous sigh.
"Hey," said Nan. "It's been a while.. Want to switch soon?"
"Yeah, I guess," Rebecca said and sighed again, an edge to her voice and posture.
The next exit held promises of Starbucks and Carl's, Jr., and that is where Rebecca followed the curving road in search for warm fries and respite from the road's rage inducing activities.
With fries, burgers, and zucchini bites in hand, they buckled themselves back in, this time with Nan behind the wheel.
"Thanks for taking over," said Rebecca.
"Hey no worries," Nan said, grabbing a few fries from the center console without even looking.
"How do you do it?" she asked.
"What?" Nan asked.
"You're like not even stressed. I dunno, all this just gets to me, how many jerks won't let you in, or people just not watching where they're going. It's the worst part of a road trip like this," Rebecca said.
"Yeah, but.. we've got a working radio, and fries, and look at how fluffy the clouds are. It's a beautiful day, Bex, and we're together. What more could I want?" She flashed a smile that could brighten anyone's day.
"You're the best, Nan," Rebecca said, this time her sigh releasing the tension she'd been holding.
"You are," said Nan, and she laid her hand palm up across the center console, just behind the fries.
Rebecca took Nan's hand in her own.
Now they were both smiling.
