Jack is a lying liar who lies when he tells the story in Exit Wounds that as soon as they'd dug him up in 18whatever A.D., they popped him right in the freezer. They dug him up and kept him out of his own way by promptly shipping him off somewhere quiet to wait for psychotherapy to be invented, under which treatment he then spent the next century, helped along by lots of lovely drugs.
CANON. I know it's so, because it is the only way in which Exit Wounds even begins to make a glimmer of sense. And even then, it doesn't really get there.
