I adore the Nine/Martha one - I understand completely how she feels (I'm sorry, but an E-natural and an F-flat are just not the same notes, sir!), and I've also always had a feeling Nine and Martha would have worked beautifully. I also like the way that the two timelines are running in opposite directions - very nice touch.

*LOVES YOU RATHER A LOT FOR THAT* Erm, that is, no, they're not. Not that I ever angst over that, as a keyboardist, or anything.

And thank you!

"Damn you, equal temperament!" ::shakes fist::

/Jon Stewart

(Although it does allow us to play in A-flat and D-flat, two of my favourite lovely, dark keys, so I guess it all balances out.)

I got such flak from my band director for that one, but I was serious! I play bassoon! Depending on how I curve my tongue, I can give you nearly a whole step's difference in the throat register, and I definitely do not play an E-natural and an F-flat in the same way! (It was an atonal piece, so I couldn't even go by function.)

Eh, he was a drummer. ;-)

I'd love to see more Nine and Martha from you, btw.

It's not just equal temperament, though; it's any temperament. I'm thoroughly in love with what the keyboard can do in all sorts of temperaments (DeMorgan temperament FTW!), but there's no getting around the fact that it distributes the comma for you. I get v. emo whenever string players with whom I'd like to play are lying around, smirking and talking about how a string ensemble with piano will never sound as good as an all-string group. WOE.

Eh, he was a drummer.

I've known some fantastic drummers, but the jokes are easy for a reason.

I'd love to see more Nine and Martha from you, btw.

Alas, I love him, but I don't seem to have the faintest inkling what to do with Nine in a fanfic.

My best friend from conservatory is a harpsichordist. I carry around my bassoon and reed-making equipment, she's got her oscillator and harpsichord key!

When you mentioned string players lying around, I first read "smoking" instead of smirking! Because in my experience, string players lie around smoking, polluting my wind-playing air.

I always wanted to be a drummer, personally, and he was very, very smart, but didn't always get the finer points of tuning. He did like me because I could count the Rite of Spring without thinking about it. It all evened out.

Alas, I love him, but I don't seem to have the faintest inkling what to do with Nine in a fanfic.Well... there's always brooding, producing tears out of nowhere, and generally being sexy. But I know what you mean. I love Donna so hard it's not even funny, and I can't think of a single thing to do with her in a fic, particularly because I can't write Ten and don't ( ... )
