I would have thought Rossi more suited to that task.

falena84 and I were discussing that someplace, because Rossi was my first thought, as well. took_skye had the first explanation that was convincing to me: "Strauss wants people under her she feels she can easily control, someone she can keep under her thumb" and she's likely to see Morgan as such an agent, thus buying them a little breathing room. Choosing Rossi would antagonize her right out of the gate. I think Rossi is probably very capable politically, myself, but the way they're painting Strauss this season, that probably wouldn't save them.

That said, going on talents and temperament alone, my first choice would have been JJ. I suppose though that she's missing some of the necessary background and/or Hotch wants someone with lots of field experience and/or Hotch wouldn't want to saddle her with the job when she's got Henry.

I also want to see more of Reid, because: a) he's way too hot, even on crutches (see icon), and b) he seems to be getting marginalized because of limited mobility. What exactly happened to Matthew Gray Gubler, anyway?

I KNOW. ;_; I'm hoping they make up for lost time later on in the season; I can't help it, my Reid bias is massive. I don't now exactly what he did with himself; some kind of soft-tissue injury, I think, and it's been either three or four surgeries-which sucks but is unsurprising. Connective tissue injuries are almost always a major bitch to recover from, not least because tendons and ligaments aren't as well-supplied with blood as muscle tissue.

I started watching Criminal Minds mid-way through Season Four, so I can't really comment about Strauss' actions. I also don't see Morgan as a leader-type person; he strikes me as being better suited to being second-in-command. But maybe that's just me.

Multiple surgeries would explain why he hasn't been around much. It sucks that he got injured, so if he needs to take time off to heal, I can't really complain. Like you, I hope that he gets some more screen time later on, although I fear that Hotch and Foyet may steal that spotlight.

I can't help it, my Reid bias is massive.

I know how you feel. I tend to like the geeky characters in the shows I watch, and Reid fits into that category nicely. And since we're both Reid fans, we'll have plenty to talk about as the season progresses!
