Title: Best Served Cold
Fandom: Gekiranger
Characters: Gou and Rio
Pairing: Gou/Rio (it's actually pretty gen but their love is undeniable, yes?)
Words: 333 (neat, huh?)
A/N: Written for thetoku100 challenge. Check it out. They've got monkeys... maybe. All right, I'll write some monkeys eventually, MG.

Whatever Rio's new hobbies, Gou really wished they included less tentacles. Plenty of tentacle-free methods out there, so why was Gou stuck sparring with Octopus-ken? He dodged a set of suction cups, moving to block but getting clocked from the right, sprawling backwards.

"I haven't forgotten," called a voice from above.

Gou would recognize its pissy tone no matter how many years had passed. "Nice to see you, too!" he shouted. Rio was poised on the cliff behind Gou, surveying the battle before him without much interest, as if he wasn't the one who sent slimy tentacled creatures after Gou. Speaking of which... Gou rolled out of the way. "Forgotten what?"

"You thought I would, didn't you? I warned you you'd never be forgiven."

Jump. Kick. Jab. "What?"

"May fourth, 1992. Don't pretend you don't remember."

Racking your memory while fighting an eight-armed Ringi alone wasn't as easy as Rio might think. "Maybe if you called off your disturbing minion for a sec-"

"It was late, but we were training anyway. I went to the showers after, and you said I could trust you. Said you could wait. Said the temptation wasn't too much!"

"Could we talk about your crazy later? Over dinner maybe?!"

Rio snorted. "Oh? You're hungry? No need to wait for me! Kota-Ringi!"

The octopus feinted, dropping back to begin summoning a ridiculously large sphere of energy, a sphere that grew more detailed, developing a strong resemblance to...

Oh. That May fourth

Gou's epiphany distracted him enough that he forgot to dodge when the asteroid-sized takoyaki came barreling towards him, slamming him into the same cliff Rio was perched atop. After a few dizzy moments, a fuzzy, Rio-shaped blur appeared on the edge of Gou's vision.

"Don't ever think about stealing my midnight snacks again," he huffed, tossing his cape as he turned around. Mid-spin, he paused to add, "Welcome back."

Gou knew laughing would cause unbearable pain in his probably fractured rib cage, but some things just couldn't be avoided.
