*gasp*

This is wonderful. Heartbreaking, but wonderful. I love the relationship that develops between Margo and Carmen, especially knowing the friendship that Jack and Hurley share, too.

“We’re all cursed.” Margo means humanity in general but particularly mothers.

On the way home, Carmen explains that St. Anthony is the Patron Saint of Lost Things but only Mary knows what’s it like to lose a son.

Maybe it's just a function of being a mother myself, but those two lines particularly broke my heart. So well done. And going back to the death discussion, the death works. I'm glad (that's the wrong word, maybe?) you decided to leave it in.

Aw, thank you. Margo's comment about humanity and mothers was my favourite line, I'm glad it felt meaningful to you. As for the other, I think I heard someone say that about the Virgin Mary once. In the end I decided the death worked in the context of this story but I would not be pleased if it happened in canon. Thanks for the kind comments.

Oh, wow. An in-character, perfectly sympathetic Margo? That's almost impossible to manage, and to make it plausible given what we've seen of her... This was hard to read in the best kind of way. You've made the pain of it so real, and rendered the characters brilliantly.

Thank you. I think I was inspired by your wonderful Thérèse point of view to write from the perspective of someone back home. Margo came off pretty harsh in that one scene but given the circumstances, I hoped that was not her everyday behaviour with Jack. I am always in awe of how profound your comments are.

I am very flattered, and blushing massively. You're right that it's easy to portray Margo as being fairly horrible, based on that one scene, but it's definitely a possibility that that was just an instance of her having a really bad moment (and don't we all?). Granted, she wasn't at Jack's wedding - but was that hostility, or perhaps her uncle died the day before (or something)? Quite an interesting line of exploration.

It wasn't so much her absence at the wedding that was problematic for me but the lack of acknowledgement of her absence. (If I'm remembering correctly.)So was this a case of the actress not being available or the writers simply forgetting about her existence because they're all about the 'daddy' issues or was it meant to imply Margo and Jack had a long history of problems that need not be articulated. Since we've never heard from her again, I doubt it was the latter. Which leaves it open for us to play around with.

So what's next for you? Are you finished with Between Rome and Ithaca and All That You Can't Leave Behind? I hope not.

Oh wow, excellent characterization on both of these women. There's so much that I love about this story I wouldn't even know where to begin. And you made me actually care about Margo which is nothing short of amazing.

Great fic!

Given how little we've seen of Margo it wasn't that hard to make her more complicated. I think this version of Margo is compatible with the one you so sharply drew (and kind of made me not want to move forward with this story!) I glad you liked it. Thanks for commenting.

Well I'm glad you did continue anyway because this was awesome! Writing is supposed to encourage and inspire, not deter, right?
