I was invited today to go to a lecture given by Ali Ponai (sp????) the Afghani professor from Ohio State University who is in town. His lecture was on the similarities of the Afghani and Iraqi wars. It was rivetting. There was a huge attendance, probably 300 people piled into the room. I was thoroughly impressed. The questions at the end of the lecture based on the concern for US imperialism, but more the concern about Muslims killing Muslims in Iraq. Also a tension about the Kurds was very present, and was tip toed around throughout the question and answer session. He seemed to be speaking the government line though, and he never would come from a personal perspective. I really wanted him to answer the question, "How he as an Afghani viewed the occupation?." Especially in light that he most likely will be the next Ambassador to the United Kingdom from Afghanistan.
