Laurie and I have returned from our two-week vacation. We drove out to Indianapolis for GenCon. Overall had a good time. Met some friends, went to some great panels, attended two True Dungeon sessions that were slightly disappointing, played a few other games, walked a lot, but mainly spent a lot of time walking my robot around and entertaining people. The robot went through five full charge cycles, over two hours of actual walking, without a single mechanical failure. Astonishing, and unprecedented reliability. I'm glad Laurie convinced me to make business cards, because I nearly ran out of them at the convention.
After that, we stopped in Lexington, Kentucky to visit other friends, then drove to Myrtle Beach for a day of mini-golf and touristy stuff. Then we went down to Isle of Palms for my father's 80th birthday. Lots of family members, and many other old family friends, some of which I haven't seen since childhood. During all that we managed a spontaneous two hours on the beach when the weather was unexpectedly beautiful. It left me badly sunburned, but I don't regret it.
The final leg of the vacation seemed determined to demoralize me, with driving rain, bumper-to-bumper traffic, and multiple detours around flooded roads during the last two days driving home. Still, we're home and safe, and overall had a great time.
More details to come.
