fanfiction.net - removal of stories

Aug 28, 2011 00:20

I am progressively deleting my stories from ff.net. I don't like the site, never have, and in particular, I don't like the ferals it attracts having recently come across various forum posts (on topics unrelated to fanfic). The majority of them, the SGU ones at least, are on this LJ anyway.

Thank you for letting us know about your decission to leave ff.net.

I'm still sorry to read that fans of different shows, or fandoms, being nasty to others who don't share exactly their thinking about whatever. Intolerance at its worst.

Don't know whether i's that what you're talking about. But, one should think that SGU fans are used to the constant bickering in between, and I still think, it casts a damning light on the Stargate fandom as a whole, at least for me. In between I refuse to watch any of the other shows just because of that. Tho they where never exactly my cup of tea, I felt at least neutral about them, but not anymore. Anyway, sorry for rambling, and good to know where to find your stories,if I want to.

No, it was more that I don't want to have my writing associated with some disturbing comments made in the forums. The hysteria over SGU continues in various quarters but given I don't read (for example) Gateworld anymore, it doesn't tend to bother me unless it ends up in my mailbox.

It is good to know the stories will still be available here. I have to say, I find ff.net annoying at best - there are some stories I'm reading there, but I'm more of a livejournal fic reader for various reasons.

What I don't like about LJ is often the difficulty in finding stories.

As long as I still get to read your stories I don't mind! I'll admit I've been back and read your SGU fic several times. I was thinking of ripping it to my Kindle.

I prefer LJ for mainly social, post formatting and info sharing reasons. However I like how easy it is to locate fic on FF.net (although you do have to shuffle through quite a bit of tripe to find stuff you like.)

Yes, precisely.

Ah, but it will be here on LJ for us to read -- and enjoy Dr. Rush.

I still read a lot on FF -- but I've never gotten around to posting anything there, even though I intended to do so. The nastiness that some people spew over there, instead of being encouraging and offering constructive criticism!

I suppose the thing about reviews is that people who don't like a story continue to read and continue to post that they don't like it. Rather like the more whackjob SG fans who continued to watch SGU even when they shouted how much they hated it. Kind of weird, you know?

Sure glad a saved a copy of "Reasonable Cause to Suspect" and "Postliminium" up until the 30 April update <<>>. I was having so much fun with this series, I bought myself "The Bill" boxed set on Amazon. Hopefully, since you've bailed from the toxic, teenage wasteland that FF is rapidly becoming, you'll be inspired to do a bit of writing. I really enjoy your writing!

Toxic teenage wasteland is a nice summation! I've started a new job so my writing time tends to be a bit haphazard.
