While I lack the female equivalent of cojones to actually walk up and request to try spinning wheels at the
Sedalia Fiber Festival, I was mesmerized several times by the folks who were actually spinning off the wheel, right in front of my eyes. How awesome.
So, the
MacBook Pro will wait. I figure all I really want is
Photoshop on my current rig anyway, so I'll just get that and be done with it.
In the meanwhile, what wheel? There are a few I am considering, but you'll see I have a type...
From the Ashford camp, we have
Elizabeth 2 (which is closest of the choices in my mind to "Spinning Wheel", one that
Maleficent would gleefully cackle over;
Traditional (which doesn't look quite as to me), which advertises itself to be a good beginner wheel and has reasonably good reviews of the few I've read so far,
Traveller (though right now I do not know if I would do a lot of spinning en route, but also has had some positive things said about it, and
Joy which is the furthest from my brain's definition of "Spinning Wheel", but a spinner on
Ravelry uses this, and it made the list because I liked what she produced so much I had to see what she was using.
At high end of my price range, we have Schacht's
Schacht Reeves Saxony Spinning Wheel. Very high end of what I'd want to spend. Is very pretty. Still looking for some reviews, but this one may just price itself out in the end unless I can find some pretty strong pros for it.
With Kromski, I've been eyeing the
Symphony which I have seen good reviews of (and which is just gorgeous), and the less traditional
Fantasia - which I did spy a little at the fiber festival yesterday (a prize I did not win waaah!), it is intriguing to me, and not too expensive.
This is my pool so far of first wheels. Not sure yet how it will all pan out, as I have a lot more reviews to read. Perhaps I'll see if there is somewhere in the tristate area I can go to in order to try some wheels. In the meanwhile, I have a ton of fiber and two new spindles to try that fiber on. I also now have much more yarn (and ugh more on the way, I'm in trouble), so I'll have to take some new stash pictures very soon. Next weekend, my flooring will be done (DONE!) and then I can work on dyeing some yarn, which I'm a bit stoked about as well. Things are moving slowly but surely.
