SUCK IT, AVATAR!!!!!!

Mar 08, 2010 00:03

I am in now way able to properly function yet, but I'll  do my best.

KATHERINE BIGELOW WON BEST DIRECTOR! THAT'S RIGHT- FIRST FUCKING WOMAN TO WIN AND I AM FREAKING OUT!

*Sigh*. I needed to get that out.

I'll keep this short-. And by short, I mean like- a blurb.

Oscars,  Oscars, Oscars... There were some good moments, but I am so disappointed in so many of the ridiculously predictable winners this year. I mean- I just wasn't happy with so many of the outcomes.

Sandra Bullock? I like her, but I just do not see how her performance was in any way worth Best Actress. That could be my own bias towards Gabourey Sidibe or Carey Mulligan winning, but I just didn't see what the big deal was over her performance.
I loved her acceptance speech though- she seems like such a sweet person and I appreciate her attitude towards winning. I just wish it had gone to someone whose performance had actually blown me away.

I am in no way surprised that Jeff Bridges won Best Actor. I haven't seen Crazy Heart, but hear that it was amazing. I would've loved to see Colin Firth get it just because I thought his performance was heart-breaking, but y'know- it's Jeff Bridges. He can do what he wants.

I am so, so happy that Up won Best Score and best Animated Feature. I thought it was truly one of the best movies I saw that year, and one of the only movies I can think of that makes me cry every time I see it. Hell, the score alone makes me tear up.
  *Here I go a ranting*
I know that there are people out there that dislike it because they believe that it's every move is manipulated in order to make you feel certain emotions, but isn't that what every movie does? If they weren't meant to make you feel one way or another, than there would be no point in film. Besides, sometimes people need that something that brings up emotions that they might not allow to the surface. I know for me there's sometimes nothing better than a good cry, and Up most certainly does that for me.

Besides Up, I had also been rooting for The Secret of Kells. There are like, twelve people who have heard of this movie and even less who have seen it over here, but it's absolutely gorgeous with a wonderful story to go along with it. I never really expected it to win, but I'm hoping that the nomination will help it get more recognition once it gets a wider release over here.

I feel a little embarrassed that I haven't seen any of there animated shorts up for  Animated Short Film. I usually try and see them all every year, but I was being a huge slacker this year and completely missed out on it. Watching the clips they showed, I'm hating myself for not getting on that sooner, but I will definitely be finding them all now.

Best Supporting Actor! Christoph Waltz absolutely deserved it, imo; he was absolute perfection in Inglorious Basterds. Never have I seen a Nazi with more charisma or...likability? (that doesn't feel like the right word at all). He played his character so gleefully and his every scene felt like he was barely keeping from happily stabbing someone in the face, that I don't even know who else I would've like to see win.

Speaking of Inglorious Basterds, I'm a little sad at the lack of love it received. I especially thought it deserved Original Screenplay. That script was absolutely amazing. I'm happy for The Hurt Locker for getting it, but IB has a special place in my heart for its sheer awesomeness.

In the end, Best Director and Best Picture were the big ones for me, and I couldn't be happier with the way they turned out. And by that, I mean not in the hands of James Cameron and Avatar. Seriously- it may be visually stunning, but that where it ends for me. That could just be because I felt that everyone was so far up James Cameron's ass that I don't know how he was able to sit comfortably.

I really am happy for Katherine Bigelow outside of the whole James Cameron thing. She absolutely deserved it and I cannot get over the fact that she is the first woman to win Best Director. I can't even express how full my heart feels at the thought.

And now- say hello to my beautiful new GIF and good-night to me!
