How to write the perfect first line...

Jan 29, 2005 20:37

The title of this entry is highly deceptive. By phrasing it the way I did you may actually be led to believe that I have the answer to writing the perfect first line.

That is so far from the case I think I'll plunk myself down and have a laugh at your expense. Writing the beginning of something is so damn hard. Not just the first line, though that's certainly difficult in it's own right.

It's writing the beginning of a story and keeping a reader's interest that makes an author second-guess themselves.

Two guesses on what *I'm* trying to do. Scratch that, I'll give you one guess.. It's too obvious for two.

I always love reading books about our world that's been slightly altered, or added upon. Like an AU of what I see and live through everyday. That's what I'm trying to accomplish.

Hmmmm.

On a sidenote I still have three stories that I've promised to three different people and I'll be working on them from now on so help me.

I need to finish those before I start to get to caught up with the book that I sincerely hope I get around to writing.

Here's to hoping that I discover exactly HOW to write the perfect line. If any of YOU know feel free to share the wisdom! ;)
