So we watched The new episode of Sherlock at the
watch-along last night. Always great to watch things with them :D
So for the most part I enjoyed it immensly even though some things felt a bit off and messy.
I will start with what I disliked:
- Sherlock in the restaurant. What Was that even. Slapstick much. I have a huge emberassment squick. Also it was a bit out of characterand so not fitting the friendship that they shared.
- Andersons freakout later after Sherlock talked to him was way over the top.
- I think it would have made more sense if the reason Sherlock didn't tell John about being alive was because Moriarty had given orders to have John killed if he were alive and what was why he pretended to be dead. This way John not knowing and being almost the only one who didn't was aweful.
- The bomb situation. Why oh why did he do that to John. It wasn't even funny. On Dr. Who maybe. But this isn't a show for kids.
- Like I mentioned it felt a bit messy. I think the merging of both stories, Sherlocks return and the bomb threat didn't quite work for me.
Things I liked/loved
- Sherlock and Mycroft working together and playing a game of wits.
- That he took Molly on, thanked her and was really really sweet.
- Sherlocks and Mycrofts parents being so ordinary
- Mary. I thought she was fantastic and very likeable. I loved how they handled that and haven't made it some triangle. What a novel idea.
- John's reaction to Sherlocks return was fantastic. Especially with the downgreading of restaurants.
- Anthea was there. Nice nod to continuety. Was that the same actress though?
- My theory about how Sherlock did it might have been correct if Sherlock told Anderson the truth.
- I liked the fanfic version a lot go figure.
- Mrs Hudson, Lestrade!!!!
Anyways, I'm happy the show is back.
