Dance dance dance...

I have this new show that I watch. I really enjoy it. It's an american reality tv show called Dance Moms. And I cannot stop. The thing is, it's so horrible and aweful and the steaeotypes. I just cannot believe people like this exist. The drama in this is so strange to me, because all the time I feel that if they just sat down and had a decent ( Read more... )

Mwahahahah come to the dark side we have Abby Miller *G*
But seriously isn't this show sooo addictive? I've been watching thins first season so I really have no excuse as to why I am still watching except that it is kinda awesome. But to be honest slowly EVERYONE starts to get on my nerves but that was to be expected.
Who is your favorite?

Also I don't know what to think about this season of SYTYCD. It's not like there are no good dancers this season but it's just not the same. What do you think?

Rofl.... that is definately true. I would not have dealt well at all with Appy as a teacher.
But yeah..I have no seen all the eps, I must say

I think my favorite dancer is maddie. I think she really is the best expression wise and I love how she enjoys herself when she dances. I also love Nial and her mum. Nials mum for me is the most relatable mum, because she isn't so over the top and out for confrontation.

And it's very odd for me this season. I love amy and Jasmine. I loved most of the female dancers. I love all the choreography by Sonya and I loved the piece Travis did last week with amy and the week before that with Tucker and Robert. But somehow I cannot work up as much enthusiasm as usual.

I'm currently watching the Portuguese version of Dancing with the Stars. Like you, all I care about is the dance, not the competition. And I so wish I could dance like that. :)

They will certainly generate experience and it's something that people can put on their resume. But it also creates pressure on something that is an art form.
Yes, this was as far as I got as well. I don't know, I don't really like the idea of competitions, I grew up with the idea of creating a production together as well. :s

(That said, I do love So You Think You Can Dance. With a passion.)

I'm the same about So you think you can dance. I guess people wouldn't watch it as much if it weren't a competition.

I watch Dance Moms, though I'm used to the kind of weird bullshit that goes on in that world as I used to be a dancer - though thankfully, I never had a mother like those kids do. The whole thing with the competitions and pressure... that kind of pressure and competition exists at every level in every genre of the dance world. You have to constantly compete with other dancers for jobs - often whilst working other jobs to keep the money coming in and taking classes to keep your skills fresh. There is so much pressure to be the perfect dancer, the perfect performer, the perfect weight... etc. Whilst I don't think that applying a lot of pressure to kids is a particularly good thing, it does emulate the kind of lifestyle they'll have if they choose to pursue a career in dance.

The thing is, I used to be a dancer as well. But it was never like that. It was really more about dancing and putting on a performance for an audience. I do unbderstand competing with dancers for jobs. But this is more competition for the sake of competition. At least it feels like that.

When did you stop dancing?

When I was 18 - so about 14 years ago.

I think it really depends on the places you go for dance classes. Some are all about performance and joy of dance but others... not so much. To be honest, some of Abby's BS *does* feel like competition for the sake of competition at times. Also, I feel that punishing the kids for their parent's behaviour is completely wrong and is not something I've ever seen a dance teacher do before.

I was 17 when I stopped I think. Actually, i'm not sure. After school so I should have been 19. 12 years ago. Are we around the same age?

And I bet that totally influences your dance experience.

I thin in the case of Abby, most is for show. I someone cannot imagine all the adults being this irrational in RL. They do have to create drama there for people to tune in.
