cooking

My dinner was a complete disaster. Not like I burnt the kitchen down or anything, but just about everything that could go wrong did, not just for the food but for the crockery and the table too. I'd have cried if it weren't too uncharacteristic of me.

I'd offered Georgia some of my roast chicken, and she took up the offer after I've eaten. But she taught me how to make a really thin "sauce" (it's not sticky at all so I wouldn't really call it that) so it took my mind off a bit. As I was looking at the carcass after that, it occurred to me to try and make chicken soup. I regretted throwing away the chicken skin previously though. bleah.

I don't know when I'm going to have it actually. Since Francesca's gonna teach me italian tomorrow night, and lunch is probably going to be a CROUS affair again. But maybe, just maybe, I can use that to make some sort of pasta/fake gumbo soup? With the saucission that Gabrielle donated to me, my cocktail sausages, (they're as long as the length of my notebook! and less than 2 euros for like 12!), egg, and if I feel healthy I might try to buy some vegetables. Perhaps even ask Georgia if I could put in some of her cheese... we'll see how it goes! We've only got the herbs provence here though - don't have my usual stash of herb bottles! One thing I don't like about cooking myself is that I know exactly how much sugar or salt go into a particular recipe and it makes feel awfully guilty. Just making teh ice limau makes me squirm because we use so much sugar! I know there's the argument that you can try substituting but I'm stumped for substitutes at this moment!

We went for hot chocolate after class today. It was a spur of the moment decision during break, and I tried to get the message out asap but in the end, besides those of us in the Cité des Arts class, only Roberto came. Heh it was funny though, because you see the RER station and the Métro station near our school are separated, such that you can't enter one from the other. Today we were going to St. Michel, and I'd planned on taking the RER directly there. However I was too caught up chatting with Mariana, so I only realized when we entered the métro that we were supposed to go to the RER station instead! Luckily we weren't on the train yet so we made our way out. Along the way, we bumped into Matt who was going down the steps to the métro. We'd just pulled him along very matter-of-factly and announced that he was coming for hot chocolate with us! We saw Notis and Ania too! Notis came but Ania was tired to she went back. heh. So I tried to redeem myself by pointing out the usefulness of my blunder d= I had gelato instead. Was planning on both gelato and hot choc, but I decided not to splurge so much in the end. Heh this place lets you choose as many flavours you like! They just go by amount - awesome! Unfortunately I realized that I seem to be less fond of ice-cream/gelato now. Goodness!

PS. zyfie, can you give away our bottles of herbs to someone who will actually use them? Or bring them home? Heh or you can cook a lot!

cooking, to zyfie, ramble
