Not good enough for the movie

Oct 13, 2008 23:50

The astronomers caught an object on collision trajectory with Earth on their telescopes last week. It hit the Earth but was rather small so not much happened. It mostly burnt in the atmosphere but some parts landed in Africa. If you really want to you can go looking for the meteorites.
After all the movies about the destruction of the human civilization by an asteroid real one was kind of disappointment. Although I prefer being alive to fireworks.
I am however impressed that they managed to notice it at all. Estimates say it was 3 m wide. Spotting it must've been hard. In dark, big space it was like dust. Make me feel a little better about chances of finding something really dangerous before it's too late.
