JA - I think they put so many things in their stuff most people get confused and the visual abundance and cheesy elements and it's too much - the suspension of disbelief falters and the story becomes jumble of images. I saw similar complains about Sense8 but there was more time so the story was easier to perceive. But I love this kind of thing.
I though voiceover made it more like Veronica Mars :P (Who's MC?)
I thought you had? Leseparatist - that's you, right? But I'm horrible at updating it and even worse at writing reviews so you are not missing much.
I liked both. It's Harry Potter and Narnia mixed together and for grown-up (so more like real school and more mythological). However,the main "hero" is an awful, self-absorbed shit so it's sometimes hard to care about him or anything he does (it was a little more understandable in the book as he starts as a teenager - out of high school and his in grad school in the series). So the beginning - especially the parts in school - were hard to get through but it gets better and the subsequent books are more fun to read. But this was completely intentional. I was on one of Lev Grossman's readings for the final book tour and he wanted Quentin to be like this and then grow-up the hard way. I'm glad they kept him pretty close to the books for TV series. They made some changes of course (Janet is named Margo for some reason) but the pilot was pretty good. It's also nice to see Julia's story happening in parallel in the TV series. Julia makes everything better.
It is, but you hardly ever update gr, it's practically like you don't have it ;)
MC = main character.
I've heard pretty much that about the Magicians and it makes me apprehensive to try reading it. I prefer to enjoy spending time with the characters even if I don't like them per se. But I'll probably check out a few more episodes.
There is just way too many social media for me to keep up with. Half of the accounts I have I have to reset password every time I log in because I don't remember what it is any more. Some I don't even know what email they were attached to. I almost abandoned deviantart and most of the message boards I used to frequent and I think I have a twitter but I'm not sure. There's just not enough time. I don't know how other people do it.
I thought the same but Quentin is not the only character and there are a lot of cool ideas and it's an interesting take on these YA staples. Although it helps to know HP and Narnia cannon it's not necessary. The book is pretty entertaining on it's own. Especially Fillory.
