It's science (and engineering)

There are some beautiful photos of shuttle Atlantis last launch but this is best of them all. It's so pretty it looks almost like CGI.

Remember that weird spike in Tevatron data? The one some called a new particle where there should've been none. Here's a new explanation for it and this one tries to explain matter/antimatter asymmetry the observable neighbourhood.

This is can be bad news for me. It looks like particles can move up the water stream (at least short one) when the liquid cohesion and backflow are stronger then gravity. This means that whatever is in the tube can contaminate the pipette tip. And it's so much faster to pipette ethanol to all tubes with just one tip.  A lot of people do it because one does not touch the tip to anything so it should be clean for another use but this means it may not be. I wonder how much fluid you need to pour in to get the contamination.

We all know what it's supposed to do and most have heard about the most common side effects but it looks like Viagra can also alleviate the multiple sclerosis symptoms or cause deafness. One is untested in humans (although with how common it is there are bound to be people with MS who've taken it) other happens extremely rarely and almost exclusively to older men. Hope you're not among the unlucky ones.

I felt it my whole life but here's a proof - smoke not only triggers asthma it leads to developing it. All kinds of smoke - from second-hand to industrial. Thank you Warsaw and all Polish smokers.

And, as some of you may know, tomorrow is Rapture. I'm off of blogging for the weekend so I'll see who of you was deemed worthy on Monday (I'm staying - atheists go to science meetings not heaven). Till then you have till 6 p.m. local time to think about this:
