Doctor Who is back and it just went crazy with time. And space.
Mark Sheppard. It's official - he is in everything. Actually we got two Sheppards both playing same character at different point in time. A classic Mark Sheppard character. Although I found it funny that they took all that effort to actually film in US and then hired Brits to play Americans. Especially since Mark became known to SF fans as that guy with British accent on Firefly and now that he finally is on a British show he does a US one. I liked the name too. All very meta.
I loved all the Doctor and River are so cute together. The whole "I'm quite the screamer" and "she's just a friend" conversation was classic. And it wasn't just her spurting her double entendres. He was flirting with her. Even if he denies it. At the same tragedy of their relationship becomes clearer. How happy she was when he remembered so many of their adventures. And had his own notebook. And trusted her. And then he died and she's back with one who barely remembers her. She's left knowing the best times are already behind her. Every time they meet he will know her less and less. She even foretells her own death. Nice hammering it home with Canton Everett Delaware III meeting them for the last time as they meet him for the first.
Everyone forgets the aliens as soon as they take their eyes of them. Somehow Amy remembers more then anyone but that's Amy - the girl who remembered. And she takes a photo of one. Nice thinking. I also liked how she kept her cool and confronted the alien even though the aliens are so creepy and killed Joy.
Amy is pregnant. The clues have been scattered through the whole episode - weight, stomach touching and feeling unwell but I cannot help wondering how they are going to deal with this later.
Rory being the most sensible as always. And the noobie. Hard position in to be when traveling with all those crazy people who dive into danger without looking and he's left explaining things.
So now we know Eleven dies after 200 years of being him. Well better then the previous ones - they didn't really lasted long for someone who lives for centuries he barely aged since Eight turned to Nine. It's clever how Moffat shows us Eleven's death without setting any boundaries to Matt Smith's stay as Doctor. Who knows how many years of TV translates to 200 Doctor years. I just wondered briefly why he invited Amy and Rory as he obviously had plenty of companions since them but then I realised the people invited were there when it started so it was fitting they were there when it ended.
Or do we? After all he can still call it all off. Although I like how we are in the same situation River is - knowing the future and unable to tell. Really hard, isn't it?
I just wonder why the episode was so short - even fit into 1 hour with commercials. It had the length of American TV shows - where is my 10 minutes of Doctor Who?
