For the first time since arriving back on the ship - burned and bruised - Yunho was alone. The sea stretched out before him, vast, blue and beautiful. The coast was nowhere to be seen, but Yunho wasn't bothered. He knew the ocean, knew its dangers, and knew that he could withstand them. He leaned back, and let the current carry him where it wished.

"Yunho?" a familiar and beloved voice called out. He looked up to see Jaejoong standing above the water. His head poked out from the archway of the holodeck doors that appeared in the middle of the sea. "You should be in sick bay," he scolded.

Yunho grinned up at him. "I've been in sick bay for a month. I needed an escape. Join me?"

Jaejoong eyed the water warily. "I do not find swimming as relaxing as you do. Join me back in sick bay?"

Yunho raised a hand out of the water, offering it to Jaejoong. "Help me out?"

With an uncharacteristic sigh, Jaejoong kneeled at the base of the arch and held out a hand. He barely had time to let out a startled cry before Yunho had pulled him down into the water.

He came up, sputtering and flailing, before being steadied in a strong embrace. His clothed back pressed close to Yunho’s bare chest and the warm breath of laughter tickled his ear.

"Captain!" he spat.

"Oh, so I'm 'Captain' again?"

A kiss was pressed to his temple. It calmed Jaejoong for a moment. Only just a moment, though, as the novel feeling of being floating with nothing solid underneath him soon gave way to panic.

"Settle down," Yunho murmured into his hair.

"I'll drown."

The arms surrounding him tightened. “I worked really hard to get you back. You think I’d let you go that easily?”

“You shouldn’t have done that. You take too many risks.”

“It was worth it.”

"The Collective is not the only threat I was speaking of," he said softly.

Yunho said nothing as they drifted together for a few seconds.

When he finally spoke, his voice was firm. “I’ll deal with the Federation. I told you I won’t let anyone hurt you. When I made that promise to you, I wasn’t just talking about the Borg.”

“You’re a respected officer. You have a future in Starfleet. I don’t want to endanger that.”

“My future is with you."

Jaejoong’s breath caught in his throat. Yunho had told he’d loved him and had snuck aboard a Borg ship to save him; but it was the ease at which he’d said those five words that had his heart swelling in his chest.

Yunho had told him before that the Borg had stolen his future.

And now Jaejoong was able to give it back.

The sense of awe he felt at that knowledge was unlike any emotion he’d felt before. He grinned, intoxicated by it. He felt powerful enough - waspowerful enough - to take on the Borg, the Federation, hell, the galaxy itself.

They would deal with whatever Federation gave them, and there was no way he'd let anything take away Yunho’s newfound happiness. Not even his own doubts.

A/N: *sigh* Two freaking years later and I stillhaven't finished this story. I hate adulthood.
