Playing Working in the garden today, pulling weeds. Managed to piss off a colony of ants with the weed-pulling in one area. Heard what sounded like a bird or possibly a baby rabbit (I don't know, I've never actually heard a baby rabbit pipe up, as far as I know), and followed the sound... to a clump of violets. This is clearly not a bird. Say, I see something furry in there... a bunny? Trés cute, but since I have more than two brain cells to rub together I used the shears to move the leaf. Where I found a shrew. As indicated by the title of this post. It politely requested that I fuck off, so I replaced the leaf and backed off respectfully. Probably advertising for H07 5HRE\/\/ S3XXOR.
A pity we no longer have shrews in the house (introduced, presumably, by the one Chukchi cornered several years back) - very few ants and no cockroaches or crickets, the last year or two (three?). (Sure, it's lucky to have crickets, but it's also godawful noisy.) But, I'm not the one who had to deal with tiny carnivorous creatures skittering across my tasty feet.
Need I add that I despise cockroaches? Ugh. Don't care much for spiders, either, but at least they earn their keep. Also, they might be creepy and fucking scary (those EYES!!!), but they are elegant. No skittering about for them.
