Also, you mentioned that February is a cold month that needs to be heated up by the burning passions of youthful love. Or something like that. *I* think, however, that Valentingle's was christened by bitter singles who wanted the day of celebration of the love they were so cruelly denied to reflect the cold bitterness of their own harsh realities as the most minuscule of triumphs over the snogfaces flaunting their reciprocated love in the faces of those society deems less-fortunate.
You also made a comment that has the erroneous implication that "Singles Awareness Day" is something to be sad about, akin to a pity party. I recently participated in said day with gratuitous amounts of celebrating at the expense of others, particularly the expense of friends expending a lot of energy and money on expensive gifts and events for their significant others. It's a day to make one realize the gift of being single, yes?
Lastly, is it a surprise that people like to feel sorry for themselves? Why else would they call it a Pity PARTY? I'm thinking about throwing one for myself sometime in the near future, inviting some of my most miserable and empathetic friends, and having ourselves a woenderful time.
