I just finished reading the Laura Ingalls Wilder books... again. I think I was born in the wrong era. I wish I could've seen the American prairie before it was settled. I guess this feeling mostly comes from recently reading the Little House books, a dual biography of Custer and Crazy Horse, and a book about Lewis and Clark. They got to see things that are now gone for good. I think it would be impossible to restore the prairies to what they were. It really makes me wonder about mankind's stewardship of creation. When people see something beautiful, why are they not satisfied until they have conquered it and thus, destroyed it?
