My Mom got a Wii for Christmas.

Well, technically she got a raincheck for a Wii, but it came in today! Woohoo! We're all very excited about it. Needless to say, perhaps, but I'll be coming home EVERY weekend from now on! ;)

So Christmas was good. We have this weird tradition in our house about where our presents come from. When we were little, our toys came from Santa (or Mom and Dad) and clothes came from Mrs. Claus (or sometimes Mom and Dad). A few treats would come from Rudolph, and if there was any present to ALL of us girls, it was usually from "the elves." If Daddy got Mom a particularly funny or romantic present, it would be from The Elf.

The past couple of years, however, this tradition has evolved and mutated. last year my dad actually googled a list of obscure Christmas characters our presents could be from. My favorites were Herr Drosselmeyer (the grand-uncle in The Nutcracker) and Balthasar (one of the Wise Men's names, according to tradition). For my readers' amusement, here are my gift-givers from this year:

Rudolph
Charlie Brown
Vixen
Mr. Jingaling (a Cleveland Christmas icon from the 20th century)
Frosty the Snowman
The Grinch
Clarissa (Mom's attempt at remembering Rudolph's girlfriend's name)
Mom and Dad
Santa Claus
Mrs. Claus
The Jolly Old Elf
"Great Spirit" Santa
Bing and Frank (Crosby and Sinatra...)

The rest of my family received presents from:

The Snowman
The Elf
The Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future
"Santa who got lost in Texas"
Blitzen
Lucy and Linus
the Abominable Snowman (an annual favorite)
Yukon Cornelius
Dasher
Chief Elf Wrapper
the Misfit Toys (I believe they're the ones who gave the Wii...)
"We Three Kings"
The Toymaker
"Ben and the boys" (as in the Cartwrights, from Bonanza. Mom loves their Christmas CD)
Prancer
Snoopy
Kris Kringle
The Polar Express Engineer and Crew
Mary and George (Bailey, from It's a Wonderful Life)

Frosty gave away as many presents as Santa this year, we noted. Mom explained: "He and Santa are tight." That caused a few minutes pause from present opening as we all laughed at her using that expression.

Merry Christmas! After all, it's only the 4th day of Christmas. 8 more to go! :)
