Highcombe & Endicott West 2

Feb 18, 2012 01:29

We got to Endicott West* quite late, but Will & Emma were up and waiting to welcome us.  After years of being our Artists In Residence caretakers, they were packing to leave the next day.  I woulda been a basket case, but they were warm and helpful to the last - even took us out to breakfast at the fabulous Paco & Mom's, where you must have the ( Read more... )

What a beautiful, beautiful post, Ellen.

(And if you're at the desk in the library or in Emma's old office, you're looking at the Rincons. But if you're working in the Bunkhouse, then it's the Catalinas.)

Phil's in the Bunkhouse, happy as a clam in - er, as a thrush in its nest. It's you, babe: I walk in there and I can just feel the creative energy flowing. Every space you've ever constructed does that. Reminds me it's one of the reasons we created this place together - and I'm glad we can keep it going awhile longer, after all.

So after a certain amount of my usual pacing and circling, I have built my nest in the Library - at your old desk, always good for me.

The Rincons. The Rincons. Where the sunset throws its light. The Catalinas. Where Philip looks for inspiration. With a distant mantle of snow. Got it.

I've had a couple of similar things come back at me from my own work and it's... as you say, inner fractals.

Thank you for this picture of Will and Emma's departure.

I hope you and your brother find where your edges fit together.

P.

Thank you! Yes, they seem happy - and I like thinking of them back there with you all, all of you different now, learning how your world all fits together, too. I hope I'll be able to come visit and see for myself before too long!

*raises hand* May I ask a prosaic question? Can you post a picture of the sort-of cottage with a blue door, attached to a larger house? Because I've always had some trouble picturing that, especially with the door next to the fireplace. *is very sadly lacking in imagination sometimes*

Picture? Is that that thing without the words?

No idea - in fact, for all I know, you're right, and what I'm describing at Highcombe is utterly impossible!

I can see it so clearly in my head, though - on the day we meet (which will happen someday, I know!) I will wave my arms & show you where everything is. I can even pace it out. Seriously; I was thinking I still owe you for those glasses, and would be willing to try to draw a plan - but I am truly awful at that - the moment I start to think of lines on paper, it all goes coggywampus. Sorry!

You can see nice photos of the E-West Casita on the link in my post, but it's not at all the same layout as Highcombe - and not the same color blue, either.

Click on the link - why didn't I think of that? *head desk*

I asked Google Images about "doorway next to the fireplace" and it gave me a few ideas (as long as you're not too literal about the term "next to") as shown here and here. That first one is actually a dollhouse, and the more I look at it, the more it seems to fit with what my idea of the little house at Highcombe might look like, with the stairs and all.

At some point I'm going to start an LJ community, "Pictures of Things That Look Like Things From The Kushnerverse" (or something like that). I was thinking about Pinterest, but 1) don't want to link from my Facebook, and 2) want more interaction than (I think) Pinterest is designed for. I'll be sure to let you know when I ever bestir myself to do this do.

Those are cool pictures, esp. the dollhouse! Not the right layout, though. But taking a leaf from your book, I googled & found this:

http://www.homeaway.com/vacation-rental/p242913
"View of the LR fieldstone fireplace and into the kitchen beyond."

Not the right "look," of course (and the door would not be leading to a Rustic Kitchen; I hope we're clear on that!) - but the layout (door to the left of hearth) is right on.

I await your Pinterest or whateverits pages with interest!
