I have had the impression that our new neighborhood feels like more of an extension of Manhattan than the Bronx (as I have come to know it, at least). But I have discovered--or at least realized--evidence to support this sense. If you've ever taken the BX12 traveling west, you know that Fordham Rd/190th ST becomes 207th st once you cross the Fordham Rd bridge into Manhattan; clearly, the two boroughs number their streets differently. However, if you take Broadway traveling north, the street numbering remains consistent once you cross over into the Bronx at Marble Hill; all the streets west of the Major Deegan maintain Manhattan street numbering. According to this system, our street, which is Van Cortlandt Park South, is actually 240th street. But here's what's really wacky: what would be Van Cortlandt Park North is McLean Ave, part of which is in Yonkers. But the part that's in the Bronx is actually--240th Street!
