I said this to Stephan today, when explaining why I feel justified splurging on the occasional pedicure but not manicures. I can get a pedicure and have my toes look reasonable for about a month before having to get rid of the nail polish. But try to keep fingernail polish unchipped for any amount of time--practically impossible, at least if you're me. I use my hands too much. I'm constantly typing, playing the piano, and using my nails as tools to do all sorts of things like open plastic wrappers. Now, if I were a monkey, using my toes just as much as my fingers to do things like climb trees, peel fruit, etc., pedicures would be an unjustified expense.
In other news, Stephan had a birthday yesterday. We celebrated by going to Brugge for some great beers with D. and A., and tonight we're going to Ginza for Japanese food with E. and C.
Tomorrow, I'm taking my Prius on its first road trip, to Nashville, TN, for the National Association of Singers (NATS) annual conference. One of the guest artists is Dawn Upshaw, who is giving a recital, and I'm really looking forward to that. I'm sure I'll have lots of fun and learn a lot. I return on Tuesday.
