Writing update

May 07, 2008 18:25

I haven't been posting or reading here much because I'm on a pretty ambitious schedule of writing and critiquing. I made myself a spreadsheet with daily goals, because I realized that I needed to be more orderly or I'd never meet the TNEO deadlines.

On my writing days I've written at least 2,000 words a day on the novel rewrite, though some of this is retyping things from previous drafts. I didn't realize when I started out how much new material I'd be using and how little of the older material will actually make it into this draft. I've also done some revision.

I've scheduled some days to do my detailed critiques for TNEO instead of writing. Even though I read all the submissions when I first got them and wrote on the manuscripts, it takes me pretty much an entire day (6-8 hours or more) to do the detailed written critique. Of course, since each submission is 15,000 words, I should have figured it would take me longer than last year. (My written critiques are coming in at around 7,000 - 9,000 words each. Yeah, I'm verbose.)

Sunday and Monday are technically my days off, though I wrote on both of those days this week because I hadn't met my goal on Saturday.

I'm now done with the draft of my second submission for TNEO and have blocked out a couple of days for revision. It's not due until May 14, but I'd like to do some revision, let it sit for a couple of days while I do critiques, and then give it another once-over before sending it out.

I want to try to have a draft of my third submission done before I leave for Hawaii on May 26. It's not due until June 14, but I don't want to spend time in Hawaii writing. I'll bring the manuscript along and read and maybe jot things in the margins, but I have a feeling that will be it.

I had this illusion that once I was done with my college students, I'd have all this time to go on hikes, plant stuff in the yard, etc.

Muahaha.
