After two hour-and-a-half Palm Sunday masses and one opera, I'm pretty beat.
Stephan is back from his conference, so I cooked dinner to celebrate. On a whim, I made meatballs, not so much because I was dying for meatballs but because I had a real craving for fennel seeds and one doesn't just eat handfuls of fennel seeds, so I had to think of something to go with them from what we had on hand. I halfway followed a meatball recipe in my standard cookbook, but I mostly improvised, using an egg, breadcrumbs from an old roll that needed using, a little milk, Maggi (flavoring of which the main ingredient is salt. I like to use this in place of salt), chopped onions, fennel seeds, sage, thyme, basil, and red pepper, with ground beef. They were really quite yummy. Not bad for a first attempt at making meatballs, and now I've got about a dozen in the freezer.
I've been procrastinating a rather major edit to my novel that has to get done in the next three days because of a writing group deadline. Tomorrow I've got to just make myself face it. The good news on the writing front is that I did write an entire fantasy short story of about 2,000 words start to finish a week or so ago, and it's not bad for a first draft. I had the idea in the shower, and I didn't know where the story was going, I just knew the opening sentence. It has a beginning, middle, and ending and isn't sprouting subplots like mushrooms, which is a plus. I'm afraid my usual mode is to complicate things unnecessarily. Maybe I'm starting to figure out how to plot small.
