I edited the last chapter and epilogue of my novel yesterday. Really, it still needs work because a lot of it goes into monologue mode with one elderly character telling another about his life. I think that this largely will work because we all know people like this, who are just so glad to have someone to tell their story to that they can go on and on with little prompting, but I do need to go back in and have the other character react more and add some more expressions, gestures, setting things.

I realize that I may have to cut a section that I really like because it may just be too much telling about something that the reader will never see, long after the fact. It is a very emotional scene of the hero remembering the birth of his first child in vivid detail, and I think it does a lot to reveal character and express the love between the two characters. But it comes so late in the novel I hope it isn't irrelevant. Anyway, if the novel gets to long I am guessing an editor (if I am lucky enough to get one) would put that on the list of things to cut. But for now it stays!

I bought a mini-trampoline yesterday and decided I would run and jump on that for 20 minutes before I started writing. I kept going for 30 minutes and it felt great! I have not been able to get to the gym as often as I would like and needed a cheap solution ($30) to try to get me to do more aerobic exercise at home. I love the way it makes me feel to exercise while and after I am doing it; why is it so darn hard to get started? I also listened to a CD a friend had given me that I had not had a chance to listen to yet, of Anonymous Four singing Medieval music. Hardly workout music, I know, but it worked for me!

As a musician, I really don't listen to much music outside of rehearsals and lessons I teach, because my brain gets so overloaded and I always have something going in my head. But if I let myself just listen to music while I am exercising, it feels like a trreat because it is something I don't take the time to do often enough. I am not one of these people who can listen to music as background very easily when I am doing other things. I like to devote my energy to listening.

So I hope I will make exercising at home more a habit. I am going to be doing the can can in The Merry Widow next month so that will help too!
