Preparing for the Odyssey

Jun 05, 2006 13:52

I know I am a writer when I look at some piles of clothes I had left out after doing laundry, with the premise that these were things I would take with me to Odyssey, and think, "I should edit that down."

Today the only other editing I have done is finally updating my Curriculum Vitae. I hadn't really done that in a couple years and needed to anyway for my faculty review this fall, so it felt good to get it out of the way. Sometimes I feel like I have not accomplished much in life, but when I see it all on paper, (opera roles, performances, papers presented, publications, etc.) it does make me feel good.

Of course, my website is still sadly out of date. Alas.

Friday I will leave on my cross-country journey that is surely an Odyssey in more ways than the name of the workshop. I am going on a quest without knowing what I will find, but believing wholeheartedly that it will be something good.

I have two novel excerpts edited and ready to go as workshop submissions and a few partially written stories. I've been reading books by the authors who will be guest lecturers to get a feel for their writing styles. I've read most of the required essays. Now it is just the godawful business of packing everything I can't live without for six weeks (sans husband and cats) and hoping I can somehow cram it all into my Honda Civic.
