Alright, a quick entry before I go pack my bag for a week's stay in Kota Tinggi! I've been on an emailing spree! Okay, not quite, since it was only to 4 people but still! Important duties are done with for now, and I am looking forward to going back for a proper stay after A YEAR!!! Whee! :D Although I know only too damn well that a week over there is never enough :( Sigh. If we didn't postpone the meeting by a week, I could have spent 2 weeks instead, which still wouldn't be enough, come to think of it. Oh well, c'est la vie! GAH! This is the second time I'm saying this in LJ haha. And a mere post apart at that!
Anyway, Fatma!!! Why weren't you online just now?? I'm assuming you're soundly sleeping as I type this haha. I can only imagine the exhaustion you're facing! Never mind, press on! Cute Italian delegates to ogle at, that's one incentive ;) -hugs- Try not to stretch yourself too much! I was listening to Cuore Azzurro on repeat and was suddenly suffering from I M M E N S E Azzurri-withdrawal, and even worse, you weren't online! So I couldn't talk about our boys with you to feel better haha.
I'm a bit worried now that I don't have Mondays free for the new term. I go to Malaysia on Sundays often enough, and previously, it meant I don't have to rush so much with schoolwork since I'm free the next day to tie up loose ends, but now I can't afford that. But if I went with French3 Lecture 1 instead, I can't even take up Intro to IR since the time clashes! GAH! Why must they make my life so difficult?!
And AQILAH!!! We were supposed to go swimming almost a month back! HAHAHA! We just can't seem to find the location of the muslimah's swimming pool, and worse, not even sure if it still exists! Haha. And and and, we were supposed to use your discount card at Body Shop! Although now I'm not sure I should buy the Honey moisturising shampoo since it's meant for dry&damaged hair. Is it safe to use if my hair type is normal?? Oh well, I can always buy the body scrub-a-dub-dub! :D Oh yes! The pretty red top from Dorothy Perkins!! I wanna get my hands on it, I do! AND OI! I WANNA READ A PROPER LJ ENTRY FROM YOU!!! YES, YOU!!!
Did I tell you I love Captain Jack Sparrow! Yes, plenty of times actually! But still! One never gets tired of declaring their (unrequited) love for men who are impossible to catch! Hahaha :P I want a guy just like him! This is getting impossible. First you introduce me to Neil Gaiman, which makes me want a guy who has a similar brilliant, wicked sense of humour. And then you introduce me to Johnny Depp Sparrow!!! -shakes fist- Now I understand why you adore him the way you do! OH speaking of Neil Gaiman, I have something for you! Click
here. Isn't Michelle Pfeiffer perfectly casted for the role?? Absolutely spot on! I can't wait to catch it! We should watch it together!! I hope Singapore shows it, or else I'll just dissolve into a sad, crying mess of ...umm...oh what the hell. You get the idea! I remain, as ever, bad at descriptions wahaha!
Oh and if you ("you" being the generic you) ever find yourself out of things to do online, you can read these 3 articles! All football-related haha. Since I got them after googling for "blogs on footballers"...don't look at me that way! I was bored and suffering from WC-withdrawals :( And because I am just as bored now, I will give you accompanying excerpts :D
Spiegel's World Cup Blog: No Football Today! What to do? by Chris BryantHahaha! I love this post, it's so funny. And even though it was written during the break between Round of 16 and quarter-finals, it still holds true!
Excerpts:
- 'Normally it is possible to catch at least two matches during the evening, and weekends can be happily devoted to the genteel art of sitting in a bar and gawping at the beautiful game. Plans don't need to be made during the World Cup -- the default solution to every problem is watching football.'
- 'We are bereft of football, and it hurts. The German tabloid Bild today has a few suggestions for how to fill the footballing impasse. They include "check if the wife is still there", "change your socks", "travel to Baden Baden to help the English players' wives and girlfriends with their shopping bags" and other such witty gems.'
BBC Sport World Cup 2006: Why are Brazil so good?Well it's not like I'm a fan, in fact, I'm anti-Brazil just because they're SO over-rated to the point that fans think they are near-invincible and the team thinks they can just skip their way to a win, and also because they defeated Italy in WC94 :( But eh, this article sheds some interesting light to their style of playing, which I admit, is entertaining to watch sometimes.
Excerpts:
- 'Contrary to the popular belief that Brazilian teams are defensively naive, the idea of the modern back four originated in the 1958 World Cup-winning team.'
- ' "It's the only way out of misery," says Cavalcanti. "The lower classes have no effective schooling. They live in favelas where drug dealers control their lives. Sport is the only way out, and in Brazil football is the only sport people care about.
"What makes them so good? Necessity. It's the only life they have ahead of them. That is their drive." '
- ' In Brazil children learn football in a very different way from their European counterparts.
There are no leagues or competitive matches for young children - such a concept is seen as likely to hinder a player's creative impulses.
"The children play a lot but it's always very free," says Leonardo.
"We don't tell eight-year-olds you have to play right-back."
Parreira agrees: "We don't put them in a cage, say 'you have to be like this'. We give them some freedom until they are ready to be coached." '
BBC Sport World Cup 2006: How rife is taunting in football?Hmm I just realised that all the 3 headlines are in the form of a question haha! Anyway...okay, so this subject has been beaten to death. But still! If you don't mind insight, this wouldn't hurt. Haha and it's also for those who is in the Anti-Zidane camp. Well, sort of.
Excerpts:
- ' "In Italy, it's part and parcel of the game and a basic way of trying to get one over your opposite number," Hateley told BBC Sport.
"That sort of things goes on all the time. It's non-stop with the defenders, especially. They pinch you, try to annoy you by telling you you are playing really badly. I've even known spitting." '
Okay this made me unsettled right after I read the part in bold, because I started wondering if Cannavaro does this a lot! He seems like a very sportsmanly player, even on the field. Doesn't have to resort to such antics. Hehe :D
And I'll just copy and paste this whole chunk here, because...well you'll see why! :D
- ' The 45-year-old ex-Rangers hitman, who also plied his trade in France with Monaco between 1987 and 1990, felt Zidane and his team-mates were becoming increasingly frustrated at failing to create a winning goal.
"Because Italy don't play that far up the field it's difficult to get behind them," Hateley said.
"You are looking for the killer pass but they just sit in there. They are masters of just soaking up pressure.
"That, coupled with the verbal taunts and the little kicks and tugs can be a recipe for disaster if the opposition have players who overreact.
"I'm sure we'll eventually hear what Materazzi said to make Zidane snap, but in reality the Italian defence did their job."
Hateley insists, however, that whatever role Materazzi played in tainting Zidane's reputation in his swansong match, the World Cup winners deserved to be crowned champions.
"The way they conducted themselves off the field was a great credit to them," said Hateley.
"They were one the best teams to mix with the locals in Germany and made a lot of friends. Hopefully, this episode doesn't overshadow that." '
Yes, yes and yes to all of that! :D :D :D And damn right it shouldn't overshadow their win! But we very well knew it did :(
Ookay, it's nearly 3am and I haven't started packing yet!!! Eeks! And I foresee going through PLENTY of pages on forzazzurri to catch up with things once I come back! Double eeks! And the same goes for the Cannavaro & Zambrotta threads, which might disappear since they are no more part of Juve! :( I will miss my daily dose of Cannavaro & Pirlo too! And I've been meaning to find a better layout since I'm a bit sick of this one! Looks like I just gotta do it next week. Anyway, enjoy the holidays before the new semester & year descends upon us!!
