A middle aged man just walked into the office (where I am at the front desk) looking all freaked and harassed.
He said he had accidentally locked the keys to his wife's Audi in the car in the car park across the road. I asked him if he wanted to sit down in the reception area as he seemed frazzled.
He said he was going to have to break a small window to get the keys (as his house key was also in there) or catch a cab home to get the spare key from there. He seemed quite freaked out the whole time but was clutching a can of red bull & a chocolate bar so could have been buzzy from those.
He reckoned he needed about $18 for cab fair - which was 3/4 of what I had on me so...
Short version:
I just gave a jittery looking stranger with a fairly understandable sob story $18 (9 quid) in exchange for a name, phone number, address & the pair of prescription glasses he was wearing (that are fairly strong but he offered them!) & a promise he would be back in 30 minutes to repay.
Now my two collegues (who are their 50s) are having a laugh that I have been duped.
Have I just been suckered?
